Blue Yonder Launches Generative AI Capability To Dramatically Simplify Supply Chain Management and Orchestration
Blue Yonder Orchestrator allows companies to make faster, smarter decisions and increase planner productivity
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Dec. 12, 2023 – With supply chain challenges and disruptions becoming more prevalent, companies need to make informed decisions faster and more accurately. However, with an overabundance of often-disparate data and an imperative to transfer knowledge due to workforce retirement, companies need assistance making sense of this data to ensure their supply chain can manage disruptions and stay ahead. That’s why Blue Yonder, a leading supply chain solutions provider, launched Blue Yonder Orchestrator, a generative AI capability that allows companies to fuel more intelligent decision-making and faster supply chain orchestration.
Blue Yonder Orchestrator synthesizes the natural language capabilities of large language models (LLMs) and the depth of the company’s supply chain IP to accelerate data-driven decision-making. Integrated within Blue Yonder’s Luminate® Cognitive Platform, Blue Yonder Orchestrator is available to customers using Blue Yonder’s cognitive solutions suite.
“Blue Yonder Orchestrator helps companies bring value to their data, which is where many companies struggle,” said Duncan Angove, CEO, Blue Yonder. “It allows business users to quickly access recommendations, predictive insights, and intelligent decisions to ensure they generate the best outcomes to impact their supply chain positively. In today’s supply chain environment, in which many professionals are nearing retirement age and it’s challenging to retain that institutional knowledge, companies can use Blue Yonder Orchestrator as a trusty supply chain assistant that can augment intuition – using the value of the data – to make better and faster decisions.”
Users can query in everyday language, and Blue Yonder Orchestrator pulls data from all relevant and permissible sources. It can then serve up insights in a digestible format and recommend next steps. It does this without the hassle of wrangling data, toggling between multiple software applications, or relying on a technical team to create the framework or view. Blue Yonder Orchestrator is being designed to inform decisions across the full breadth of Blue Yonder’s Supply Chain Planning and Execution capabilities.
Unlike other generative AI solutions, Blue Yonder Orchestrator is differentiated in several ways, including:
- The LLMs are trained on Blue Yonder’s depth of intellectual property, including proprietary algorithms, 400+ patents and Blue Yonder’s supply chain software.
- Blue Yonder’s Platform Data Cloud, Powered by Snowflake, makes it easier to streamline decision-making and build a better network around a single data source while overcoming traditional integration challenges.
- Enhanced data security and quality assurance determine individual access based on user roles, permissions, and context within the supply chain application. At the same time, prompt engineering ensures the most accurate, relevant responses, insights, and recommendations.
“Generative AI has a lot of promise but comes with certain considerations,” said Angove. “As we learn more, we will introduce additional capabilities and accelerate adoption across the portfolio. Blue Yonder is embarking on an exciting journey, and our team will be there from the onset, working with customers to assist them and leveraging their experiences to help guide the roadmap. As we build trust with customers’ business teams, our customers will be given the option to grant Blue Yonder Orchestrator agency to automate routine decisions.”
Because Blue Yonder Orchestrator is embedded within the Luminate Cognitive Platform, which runs on Microsoft Azure, it inherently benefits from robust security measures, auditing, reliability, and cost control. Additionally, with direct connection to Blue Yonder’s Platform Data Cloud, Powered by Snowflake, enterprises can leverage the same data set across all supply chain analytics delivered by Blue Yonder Orchestrator. Also, Blue Yonder is applying recommendations from the industry’s gold standard for generative AI security, OWASP Top 10 for Large Language Models, to safeguard its capability so customers can confidently take full advantage of the latest technology innovations that keep their businesses running faster and smarter.
“Understanding vulnerabilities and mitigating security exposures in generative AI-based systems will pave the way for the realization of the tremendous promise of this emerging capability,” said Gurdip Singh, chief product officer, Blue Yonder. “With diligence and the right technology partner, companies can adopt generative AI early – and securely – to get a head start on realizing its benefits now and in the future. The key is balancing innovation and governance through continuous collaboration between security and AI teams. Blue Yonder successfully achieves this balance and helps its customers understand and acclimate to the new technology.”
In addition to Blue Yonder Orchestrator, Blue Yonder launched an internal generative AI solution to transform the way its associates collaborate and ideate. The tool is aimed at improving productivity, efficiency, and innovation – across functions such as finance, sales, and marketing. Information shared through the internal tool stays securely within the organization and is overseen by an AI Governance Board. Each week, the company sees an average of 5,000 queries come through on the solution, which is currently in beta.
Blue Yonder Orchestrator is the newest addition to Blue Yonder’s industry-leading AI and ML capabilities. As an AI-first company, Blue Yonder has been embedding advanced analytics, AI and ML into Its Supply Chain Planning and Execution solutions for many years.
